Behind the Music: Explosions

Updated: Jun 26

Explosions is by far the most emotional and turbulent song in Dito's catalogue, but let's take a deeper dive into what this song means to Dito.

"I wanted this song to represent a rebirth of sorts," Dito said on his rendition of "Explosions" by Ellie Goulding. "This song has always meant so much to me as both an artist myself, and a person who feels deeply impacted by its message," he said. And what is that message? Learning how to be powerful in your own skin on your own. "You could say this song is about breaking up with someone or something and feeling helpless...the mountains will shake but I know I can still make explosions." Although this song represents something different for everyone, we can all agree it has a way of tugging on your heartstrings, and the cinematic arrangement makes it easy to put yourself in this swirling scene of battle. "I wanted the end to feel really epic," he stated, "you have the swirling strings, the orchestral hits, and the dueling trumpets at the end vying for attention, but the one thing that remains constant throughout the song is the voice, 'inner voice' eh?". It's clear the amount of thought that Mr. Delirium puts into his work, and this song is a testament to his roots in classical orchestration. "When I was in college, we had so many projects where we had to write music - the score, the instrumentation, the arrangement, all of it!" he elaborated. "I've always written songs in this way, so it was nothing new... I just want the visions I have in my head to come to fruition and I've learned some ways to make that happen, I do hope you enjoy them." Listen to "Explosions" by Dito Delirium here!
